Artis|Chéné Gildas

In a 90-second film, flowers begin a dialogue with the world.
What is the Tokyo International Flower Art Movie Competition?
Flowers transcend borders and language.
They possess a quiet yet universal power to convey kindness, love, and the preciousness of life—gently and without conflict.
Flowers rise above division, serving as a deeply peaceful and cultural medium that builds warm bridges of dialogue between people.
The Tokyo International Flower Art Movie Competition is a film competition organized by Flower Art Award in TOKYO MIDTOWN, a prestigious award with a 26-year history.
This competition invites 90-second short films that explore the theme of flowers, expressing each creator’s personal memories, emotions, thoughts, and messages through moving images.
From films that capture the inherent beauty of flowers, to stories intertwined with memories or moments of life, or narratives born from free imagination—there are no limitations on expression.
Engage sincerely with flowers, and challenge yourself to create a film that reflects your unique perspective and vision.
The Grand Prize winner will receive ¥100,000 in prize money.
In addition, all submitted works will be screened in May 2026 at Temps de Flors de Girona, one of Europe’s most renowned flower festivals, held in Girona, attracting over 400,000 visitors.
Screenings will take place at the local cinema Cine Truffaut.
Furthermore, an additional screening event will be held at a gallery in Paris this October.
The emotions and stories you entrust to flowers and film will travel beyond borders and language, reaching audiences around the world.
We warmly invite you to submit a work that shares your unique story and perspective, inspired by flowers, with the global stage.
What is the Flower Art Award?
— An international art project for young creators across disciplines, reaching out to the world —
For motivated artists, developing an international perspective and the ability to communicate one’s work to society and the world is a vital element in expanding the value of creative practice.
For students of art and emerging artists in particular, engaging in international competitions and exhibitions, presenting work abroad, and creating within different cultural contexts offer far more than technical or expressive growth. These experiences provide crucial opportunities to view one’s own expression objectively and to transform that awareness into the next stage of creation.
The Flower Art Award was founded in 2000 with the vision of providing dedicated Japanese artists with genuine opportunities to challenge themselves on the global stage.
Over the past quarter century, the Award has opened pathways to international arenas—primarily for Japanese flower artists—and has produced six world champions. Yet its true essence lies not merely in technical competition, but in creating a place that questions expression itself, nurtures it, and allows it to enter into dialogue with the world.
While rooted in flower art, this project is not confined to a single discipline.
By approaching flowers as material, theme, or concept, the project welcomes artists from across a wide spectrum of fields—including fine art, sculpture, film, photography, spatial design, architecture, installation, performance, and media art.
As a cross-disciplinary international art project, it offers art students and emerging creators valuable opportunities to step beyond their primary fields, challenge their own modes of expression, and engage with perspectives from other disciplines.
Building upon this philosophy and track record, the international expansion initiative Flower Art Award – THE WORLD STAGE was launched.
This project provides artists—regardless of discipline or title—who aspire to engage with the world, with platforms for international presentation and global dissemination.
By supporting creation and communication as a unified process, the project powerfully delivers the diverse sensibilities and expressions of contemporary Japanese artists to the international community.
Bringing the refined aesthetic nurtured by Japan’s flower culture together with the free and experimental creativity emerging from art education into the global arena, the Flower Art Award continues to serve as an open platform for all artists who challenge boundaries—fostering international dialogue and weaving new stories of creation.
